Problem

A toy car of mass 2 kg is moving due east with a speed of 10 m s−1^{-1}. For the first 3 s, a constant 4 N force acts on it due west. Immediately after this, for the next 2 s, a constant 6 N force acts due east. Neglect all other forces. Using this information, answer the following parts. (i) Calculate the acceleration of the car during the first 3 s. (ii) Determine the velocity (magnitude and direction) of the car at the end of the first 3 s. (iii) Calculate the acceleration of the car during the next 2 s. (iv) Find the final velocity (magnitude and direction) of the car at the end of 5 s from the start. (v) Compute the total change in momentum of the car over the entire 5 s interval, stating its direction.
