Problem

A horizontal mass–spring system consists of a block of mass 0.25 kg0.25\,\text{kg} attached to an ideal spring of force constant 100 N m−1100\,\text{N\,m}^{-1}. The surface is frictionless and the block is set oscillating with an amplitude of 0.10 m0.10\,\text{m}. Answer the following: (a) Calculate the angular frequency and the time period of the oscillation. (b) Determine the maximum speed attained by the block during its motion. (c) Find the magnitude of the acceleration of the block when its displacement is 0.050 m0.050\,\text{m} from the mean position. (d) Compute the total mechanical energy of the system.
