Problem

Three points are given: P(5,−3)P(5,-3), Q(−4,6)Q(-4,6) and R(0,−7)R(0,-7). (a) Find the coordinates of the images P1P_1, Q1Q_1 and R1R_1 when the points are reflected in the xx-axis. (b) Find the coordinates of the images P2P_2, Q2Q_2 and R2R_2 when the same original points are reflected in the yy-axis. (c) On graph paper, plot the original points and all six images obtained in parts (a) and (b). Use one colour for the originals, a second colour for the xx-axis images and a third colour for the yy-axis images. Label every point clearly. (d) From your diagram, write two observations comparing the positions of an original point and its image under each reflection.
