Problem

In a particular crystalline medium the relative permittivity and permeability are εr=4.0\varepsilon_r = 4.0 and μr=2.5\mu_r = 2.5, respectively. (i) Determine the speed of electromagnetic waves in this medium. (ii) A pulse generated in the medium has a time period of 2.0 ns2.0\,\text{ns}. Calculate its (a) frequency, (b) angular frequency, (c) wavelength and (d) wave number within the medium. (iii) If the peak magnetic field in the pulse is 1.5×10−7 T1.5\times10^{-7}\,\text{T}, find the corresponding peak electric field amplitude, quoting any relation you use.
