Problem

After absorbing one neutron, a 235U^{235}\text{U} nucleus becomes 236U^{236}\text{U} and promptly undergoes fission. If the average binding energy per nucleon increases by 0.85 MeV0.85\,\text{MeV} in the products, the energy released per fission event is closest to (a) 1.9×102 MeV1.9\times10^{2}\,\text{MeV} (b) 2.4×102 MeV2.4\times10^{2}\,\text{MeV} (c) 2.0×102 MeV2.0\times10^{2}\,\text{MeV} (d) 1.7×102 MeV1.7\times10^{2}\,\text{MeV}
