Problem

A simple pendulum is set up in the school laboratory. (i) Write the mathematical relation connecting the time period TT, the length LL of the pendulum and the acceleration due to gravity gg. (ii) Rearrange the expression obtained in part (i) to make LL the subject of the formula. (iii) Explain why the numerical value of LL calculated from the expression in part (ii) must be written in metres when TT is in seconds and gg is in m s−2\text{m}\,\text{s}^{-2}. (iv) If a pendulum shows a time period of 1.80 s1.80\,\text{s} at a place where g=9.80 m s−2g = 9.80\,\text{m}\,\text{s}^{-2}, calculate its length to two significant figures.
