Problem

An organ pipe, both ends of which are open, sustains a standing wave of frequency 220 Hz in its second harmonic mode. (1) a** Determine the length of the pipe. (The speed of sound in air is 330 ms−1330 \text{ ms}^{-1} .) (2) b** Calculate the frequency of the third harmonic. (3) c** Calculate the wavelength of the fourth harmonic. (4) d** Suggest an advantage to having organ pipes that are open at one end and closed at the other end.
