Problem

A swimmer under water taps two stones together. Find the time taken for the sound to reach a friend who is 2226 m2226\,\text{m} away in the same water. Also calculate how long the sound would take to cover this distance through air if it could travel along the same straight path. (i) Time taken through water (take speed of sound in water =1482 m s−1=1482\,\text{m}\,\text{s}^{-1}). (ii) Time taken through air (take speed of sound in air =343 m s−1=343\,\text{m}\,\text{s}^{-1}).
