Problem

In a laboratory furnace, the wavelength at which the emitted intensity is maximum is found to be 1.50 μm1.50\,\mu\text{m}. (i) Determine the temperature of the furnace cavity. (ii) Assuming the cavity behaves as an ideal absorber, calculate the radiant power per unit area emitted from its walls. (iii) If the actual power measured is 6.80×105  W m−26.80\times10^{5}\;\text{W\,m}^{-2}, compute the emissivity of the cavity walls and state whether the surface is closer to a perfect absorber or a poor emitter.
