Problem

When 10 cm310\,\text{cm}^3 of a gaseous hydrocarbon, a compound containing only carbon and hydrogen, is burnt in excess oxygen, the products consist of 30 cm330\,\text{cm}^3 of carbon dioxide and 30 cm330\,\text{cm}^3 of water vapour, measured under the same conditions of temperature and pressure. Determine the molecular formula of the hydrocarbon.
