Problem

An automobile travels along a straight, level highway in two successive segments. In the first segment it covers 40 km40\,\text{km} at a constant speed of 60 km h−160\,\text{km h}^{-1}. In the second segment it covers another 20 km20\,\text{km} at a constant speed of 40 km h−140\,\text{km h}^{-1} in the same direction. (a) Calculate the total time taken for the entire trip. (b) Determine the average speed of the automobile for the whole journey. (c) Find the average velocity for the entire motion.
