Problem

A block of mass 0.60 kg0.60\,\text{kg} is attached to an ideal horizontal spring of unknown spring constant. The block oscillates on a frictionless surface. At one point during the motion the block is 0.10 m0.10\,\text{m} to the right of equilibrium and moving leftward at 0.60 m s−10.60\,\text{m\,s}^{-1}. Later, when it is 0.15 m0.15\,\text{m} to the right of equilibrium, its speed is 0.20 m s−10.20\,\text{m\,s}^{-1}. (a) Using only the information provided, determine the spring constant. (b) Calculate the amplitude of the oscillation. (c) Compute the period of the motion.
