Problem

During a football match, a player kicks a 0.15 kg0.15\,\text{kg} ball. Just before the kick, the ball is moving eastward at 10 m s−110\,\text{m}\,\text{s}^{-1}. Immediately after the kick, the ball moves westward at 25 m s−125\,\text{m}\,\text{s}^{-1}. The player’s foot is in contact with the ball for 0.020 s0.020\,\text{s}. (i) Calculate the change in momentum of the ball produced by the kick. State its magnitude and direction. (ii) Determine the average force exerted by the player on the ball during the contact time. Give the magnitude and direction of this force.
