Problem
A 0.40kg block attached to a horizontal spring moves on a smooth surface. When the amplitude of oscillation is 0.10m, the total mechanical energy stored in the system is 0.50J. Later, the same spring is used but the block is released with a greater amplitude such that the maximum kinetic energy becomes 2.0J.
(i) Determine the spring constant of the spring.
(ii) Calculate the new amplitude of oscillation corresponding to the larger energy.
(iii) For the new amplitude, compute the maximum acceleration experienced by the block during the motion.
