Problem
A single rectangular loop PQRS of length 0.10 m and width 0.05 m carries a current of 4 A. The loop is placed with its plane perpendicular to a uniform magnetic field of 0.25 T. Take the current to flow in the order PQRS.
(i) Calculate the magnitude of the magnetic force acting on each of the four sides PQ, QR, RS and SP.
(ii) Show that the net translational force on the loop is zero.
(iii) Taking the centre of the loop as origin, determine the magnitude of the couple (torque) acting on the loop and state the sense of rotation.
