Problem

A 0.50 kg0.50\,\text{kg} block is attached to a horizontal spring of force constant 200 N m−1200\,\text{N}\,\text{m}^{-1} on a friction-free surface. The block is pulled to one side so that the spring is stretched by 0.10 m0.10\,\text{m} and is then released from rest. (a) Calculate the angular frequency of oscillation and the total mechanical energy of the system. (b) Determine the kinetic energy and potential energy of the block at the instant when its displacement from the mean position is 0.06 m0.06\,\text{m}. (c) Find the speed of the block at this displacement.
