Problem

Answer the questions that follow, each relating to the interpretation of conditional probability. (i) State the multiplication theorem of probability for two events. (ii) Explain, in words, the conceptual difference between P(E∣F)P(E\mid F) and P(F∣E)P(F\mid E) for any two events E and F with positive probabilities. (iii) Give one real-life situation (other than dice or cards) where P(E∣F)P(E\mid F) would be expected to differ considerably from P(F∣E)P(F\mid E). Clearly describe the events chosen and write both corresponding conditional probability expressions without evaluating them.
