Problem

A 0.20 kg0.20\,\text{kg} block attached to a horizontal spring performs simple harmonic motion of amplitude 0.040 m0.040\,\text{m}. The angular frequency of oscillation is 20 rad s−120\,\text{rad\,s}^{-1} and the phase constant is 30∘30^{\circ}. Take t=0t=0 when the stopwatch is started. (i) Calculate the displacement of the block at t=0.10 st=0.10\,\text{s}, stating its sign and unit. (ii) Determine the instantaneous velocity of the block at the same instant. (iii) Find the instantaneous acceleration of the block at t=0.10 st=0.10\,\text{s}. Indicate its direction with the correct sign. (iv) Compute the magnitudes of maximum velocity and maximum acceleration for this motion.
