Problem

An object is placed 30 cm30\,\text{cm} in front of an unknown concave mirror and produces an inverted image that is the same size as the object. Answer the following questions about this optical system. (a) Derive a general expression for the separation dd between an object and its image when a concave mirror produces an inverted image that is the same size as the object. Express dd in terms of the object distance sos_{o} only. (b) Use your result from part (a) to calculate the numerical value of the separation when so=30 cms_{o}=30\,\text{cm}. (c) Determine the focal length ff of the mirror. (d) The object is then moved to 25 cm25\,\text{cm} from the mirror. Calculate the new image distance and magnification, and state whether the image is real or virtual.
