Problem

A smooth, friction-free incline is 10 m10\,\text{m} long and rises vertically by 4.0 m4.0\,\text{m}. A block of mass 2.0 kg2.0\,\text{kg} is released from rest at the top of the incline. Take g=9.8 m s−2g = 9.8\,\text{m}\,\text{s}^{-2}. (i) State the relation for kinetic energy of a body in terms of its mass and speed. (ii) Calculate the potential energy of the block relative to the bottom of the incline at the moment of release. (iii) Find the speed of the block when it reaches the bottom of the incline. (iv) Compute the total mechanical energy of the block at (a) the top, and (b) the bottom of the incline, and comment on your results.
