Problem

A concave mirror has a radius of curvature of 24 cm24\,\text{cm}. It forms a real, inverted image of a candle 36 cm36\,\text{cm} in front of the mirror when the candle is placed on its principal axis. (i) Calculate the focal length of the mirror. (ii) Determine the distance of the candle from the mirror for the given image position. (iii) The candle is now moved 8 cm8\,\text{cm} towards the mirror along the axis. Find the new image distance. (iv) Compute the displacement of the image due to the movement of the candle and state whether the image moves towards or away from the mirror.
