Problem

A string of length 1.00 m1.00\,\text{m} is fixed at both ends. When the tension is 36 N36\,\text{N}, its second harmonic has frequency 120 Hz120\,\text{Hz}. The tension is then increased to 64 N64\,\text{N} and the second-harmonic frequency becomes 160 Hz160\,\text{Hz}. (i) Determine the linear mass density μ\mu of the string. (ii) Calculate the speed of the wave on the string when the tension is 36 N36\,\text{N}.
