Problem

Two different water tanks are to be filled simultaneously using separate taps. • Tank A is a cube of internal side 1.8 m and is filled by Tap A, which supplies water at 900 L per minute. • Tank B is a right circular cylinder of internal radius 1.2 m and height 2.0 m and is filled by Tap B, which supplies water at 800 L per minute. Both tanks are initially empty when their respective taps are opened at the same instant. Take π=3.14\pi = 3.14. (i) Compute the capacities of Tank A and Tank B in litres. (ii) Calculate, for each tank, the time taken (in minutes) by its tap to fill it completely. (iii) Identify which tank gets filled first and determine by how many minutes it finishes earlier than the other.
