Problem

Let AA and BB be independent events on a sample space SS. Respond to the tasks below. (i) Prove that the events A‾\overline{A} and B‾\overline{B} are also independent. (ii) Using part (i), derive an expression for P(A∪B)P(A\cup B) in terms of P(A)P(A) and P(B)P(B). (iii) Using the result from part (ii), evaluate P(A∪B)P(A\cup B) and P(A‾∩B‾)P(\overline{A}\cap\overline{B}) when P(A)=0.4P(A)=0.4 and P(B)=0.5P(B)=0.5.
