Problem

At a point on the surface of water, the superposition of two waves of the same frequency results in a maximum displacement of 1.20 cm1.20\,\text{cm}. Each constituent wave has amplitude 1.00 cm1.00\,\text{cm}. (i) Determine the phase difference between the two waves at that point. (ii) The common frequency is 100 Hz100\,\text{Hz} and the initial phase of the first wave is zero. Write an equation for the resultant displacement as a function of time. (iii) What is the minimum possible displacement amplitude that can occur at the point for these two waves? State the corresponding phase difference.
