Problem

A row of trees is to be planted along a straight road in such a way that the distances (in metres) between successive trees form an arithmetic progression. The first spacing is 2 m2\,\text{m} and the last spacing is 8 m8\,\text{m}. Exactly six trees will stand between the first and the last tree. (i) Determine the spacing between every pair of successive trees. (ii) Calculate the total length of road occupied from the first tree to the last tree.
