Problem

A flute may be modelled as a cylindrical air column open at both ends of length 0.88 m0.88\,\text{m}. The speed of sound in air is 340 m s−1340\,\text{m\,s}^{-1} at the temperature of the room. (a) Calculate the fundamental frequency produced by the flute. (b) Determine the frequency of the fifth harmonic of this air column. (c) If the temperature rises so that the speed of sound increases by 2%2\%, find the new fundamental frequency.
