Problem

A drone starts from point AA and flies 1200 m1200\,\text{m} due north at a steady speed of 5 m s−15\,\text{m s}^{-1} to reach point BB. It immediately turns back and flies 600 m600\,\text{m} toward point AA at a speed of 10 m s−110\,\text{m s}^{-1} to reach point CC. It then hovers at point CC for 30 s30\,\text{s} before its motors are switched off. (a) Calculate the total time taken from the start at AA until the motors are switched off. (b) Find the total distance travelled by the drone during this period. (c) Determine the displacement (magnitude and direction) of the drone from point AA to point CC. (d) Using your results, compute (i) the average speed and (ii) the average velocity of the drone for the complete motion described.
