Problem
A scholarship fund pays an award to a student at the end of each month. The amounts for the first five months are Rs 1,500; Rs 1,800; Rs 2,100; Rs 2,400; and Rs 2,800 respectively.
(i) Determine, with full working, whether these monthly amounts form an arithmetic progression.
(ii) If the amounts form an AP, find the common difference and the amounts for the 6th and 7th months. If they do not, identify which payment breaks the pattern and state the amount it should have been so that all payments constitute an AP.
(iii) Assuming the corrected payment pattern is an AP, calculate the total amount the student will receive in the first 12 months.
