Problem
A simple pendulum executes small-amplitude oscillations in a laboratory located where the acceleration due to gravity may be taken as 9.8m s−2.
(a) Define the quantities time period, frequency and angular frequency for the oscillatory motion of the pendulum.
(b) Establish the mathematical relationship linking these three quantities.
(c) The time period of the pendulum is increased by 25% by adjusting its length. Quantitatively state the corresponding percentage change produced in (i) its frequency and (ii) its angular frequency, giving reasons for your answer.
