Problem
A spherical convex mirror has a focal length of −15cm. A designer wants to position an object so that the mirror produces an upright image that is the same size as the object.
Answer the following questions about whether this design goal can be met.
(a) Derive an algebraic expression for the required object distance so by imposing the condition that the image be upright and the same size as the object.
(b) Evaluate your expression using the given focal length. State the numerical value obtained for so.
(c) Discuss whether the result found in part (b) is physically attainable for the convex mirror described, and explain the reasoning behind your conclusion.
