Problem

A straight road rises 3 m3\,\text{m} for every horizontal run of 8 m8\,\text{m}. The angle that the road makes with the horizontal is θ\theta, measured anticlockwise from the positive xx–axis. (a) Express tan⁡θ\tan \theta in simplest form. (b) Determine sin⁡θ\sin \theta, cos⁡θ\cos \theta, sec⁡θ\sec \theta, csc⁡θ\csc \theta and cot⁡θ\cot \theta. (c) Verify that sin⁡2θ+cos⁡2θ=1\sin^{2}\theta+\cos^{2}\theta=1 using your answers from part (b).
