Problem

A 0.20 kg0.20\,\text{kg} mass is attached to an ideal spring of force constant 50 N m−150\,\text{N}\,\text{m}^{-1} on a friction-free surface. The system is set into simple harmonic motion with an amplitude of 0.10 m0.10\,\text{m}. (a) Calculate the total mechanical energy of the system. (b) Determine the kinetic and potential energies of the mass when its displacement from the equilibrium position is 0.06 m0.06\,\text{m}. (c) Find the speed of the mass at this displacement.
