Problem

A decorative garden fountain has a container made by welding a hemisphere on the top of a right circular cylinder, both having the same inner radius of 0.5 m. The height of the cylindrical portion alone is 1.0 m. Water is pumped into the empty container at a steady rate of 25 L per second. When the pump is switched on, the container is already half filled by volume. Use π=227\pi = \dfrac{22}{7} where necessary. (i) Calculate the total capacity of the container in litres. (ii) Determine the volume of water already present when the pump is started. (iii) Find the additional time, in minutes and seconds, required to fill the container completely.
