A solenoid 30 cm long has 1500 closely wound turns and carries a current of 6 A. A straight conducting rod 0.25 m long is placed inside the solenoid at its mid-point in such a way that the rod makes an angle of 30∘ with the axis of the solenoid. The rod carries a current that can be varied.
Based on this information, answer the following:
(i) Determine the magnitude of the magnetic field inside the solenoid.
(ii) For a current of 8 A in the rod, calculate the magnitude of the force acting on it.
(iii) The rod has a mass of 10 g. Keeping the solenoid current unchanged, find the minimum current that must be passed through the rod so that the magnetic force just balances its weight and the rod begins to "float" inside the solenoid.
