Problem

A school bell produces a steady note of frequency 600 Hz600\,\text{Hz}. On a day when the speed of sound in air is 340 m / s340\,\text{m\,/\,s}, students perform the following investigations. (i) Find the wavelength of the sound produced by the bell in air on that day. (ii) Later the same bell is placed inside a glass chamber that has been cooled so that the speed of sound inside the chamber is 331 m / s331\,\text{m\,/\,s}. Calculate the wavelength of the sound under these new conditions. (iii) When the sound travels from the warmer air outside the chamber to the colder air inside, which physical quantity among frequency, wavelength and speed remains unchanged? State the reason for your answer.
