Problem

Answer the following: (1) State the Stefan–Boltzmann law for power radiated from a hot object. (2) The Sun has a surface temperature of about 5770 K5770\,\text{K} and a radius of 6.96×108 m6.96\times10^8\,\text{m}. Assuming that the Sun behaves as a black body with emissivity one, calculate its total power radiated into space. (3) The Earth orbits the Sun at a mean distance of 1.496×1011 m1.496\times10^{11}\,\text{m}. Calculate the solar power per square metre incident on the upper atmosphere of the Earth.
