Problem

A flat plate of area 0.020 m² behaves as an ideal blackbody. (a) Its peak emission wavelength is observed to be 600 nm. Calculate the radiant power emitted by the plate. (b) The plate is allowed to cool until its peak emission wavelength shifts to 800 nm. Determine the ratio of the new radiant power to the initial radiant power. (Use b=2.898×10−3 m Kb = 2.898\times10^{-3}\,\text{m\,K} and σ=5.67×10−8 W m−2K−4\sigma = 5.67\times10^{-8}\,\text{W\,m}^{-2}\text{K}^{-4}.)
