Problem

Two non-viscous organic liquids A and B have densities 0.80 g cm−30.80\,\text{g cm}^{-3} and 1.00 g cm−31.00\,\text{g cm}^{-3} respectively. Experiments show that both liquids possess the same bulk modulus. (a) Starting from the appropriate relation for sound propagation, obtain an expression for the ratio vAvB\dfrac{v_A}{v_B} of the speeds of sound in the two liquids in terms of their densities. (b) If the speed of sound in liquid B is measured to be 1.50 km s−11.50\,\text{km s}^{-1}, calculate the speed in liquid A. (c) Determine the percentage by which the speed in liquid A exceeds that in liquid B.
