Problem

A laboratory trolley of mass 15 kg15\,\text{kg} is initially at rest on a smooth horizontal floor. A student pulls it by applying a constant horizontal force of 45 N45\,\text{N} for 4 s4\,\text{s}. After the first trial the student places an additional 5 kg5\,\text{kg} load on the trolley and repeats the experiment. Answer the following: (a) Calculate the acceleration produced in the trolley when the applied force is 45 N45\,\text{N} and the mass is 15 kg15\,\text{kg}. (b) If the same 45 N45\,\text{N} force is now applied to the loaded trolley of mass 20 kg20\,\text{kg}, determine the acceleration obtained. (c) To make the loaded trolley accelerate at the same rate as in part (a), find the magnitude of the horizontal force that must be applied.
