Problem

A buzzer operates at 250 Hz250\,\text{Hz}. At time t=0 st = 0\,\text{s} it is switched on and kept running for 10 s10\,\text{s}. After the first 4 s4\,\text{s} its frequency is suddenly increased to 500 Hz500\,\text{Hz} while the amplitude remains unchanged. The speed of sound in the surrounding air may be taken as 340 m s−1340\,\text{m\,s}^{-1} throughout. (a) Draw a table to show the time intervals during which each frequency is produced. (b) Calculate the total number of oscillations emitted during the 10 s10\,\text{s} operation. (c) Compute the total length of the path travelled by the disturbance in air during the 10 s10\,\text{s} interval.
