Problem

A 0.4 kg0.4\,\text{kg} mass is hung from a light vertical spring of force constant 80 N m−180\,\text{N m}^{-1} and allowed to come to rest at its new equilibrium position. It is then pulled downward through 0.20 m0.20\,\text{m} and released from rest. (i) Calculate the speed of the mass as it passes through the spring’s natural (unstretched) length. (ii) Determine the maximum height (above the natural length) reached by the mass after passing this point.
