Problem

A toy train moves on a straight track that coincides with the positive xx-axis. Starting from the origin at t=0t = 0, it travels with a constant velocity of +4 m/s+4\,\text{m/s} for 30 s30\,\text{s}. It then reverses and continues with a constant velocity of −2 m/s-2\,\text{m/s} for the next 20 s20\,\text{s}. Work out the following. (i) Distance covered during the first 30 s30\,\text{s}. (ii) Distance covered during the next 20 s20\,\text{s}. (iii) Total distance travelled and net displacement after 50 s50\,\text{s}. (iv) Average speed and the average velocity (state magnitude and direction) for the entire 50 s50\,\text{s} interval.
