Problem

A student standing on a nearly frictionless rotating platform tosses a heavy ball straight outward (radially) and lets it leave her hands. The ball is in flight, and no external horizontal torques act on the student–platform system. About a vertical axis through the center of the platform, explain whether the student’s rotational speed increases, decreases, or stays the same immediately after the throw, and briefly state why.
