Problem

For a fixed real parameter kk, define the rational function Rk(x)=kx+1x2+5x+6.R_k(x)=\frac{k x+1}{x^{2}+5x+6}. Throughout this question, assume x≠−2x\neq -2 and x≠−3x\neq -3. (a) Write Rk(x)R_k(x) in the form A(k)x+2+B(k)x+3\displaystyle \frac{A(k)}{x+2}+\frac{B(k)}{x+3} and state the resulting identity after clearing denominators. (b) Derive explicit formulas for A(k)A(k) and B(k)B(k) in terms of kk. (c) Using your formulas, compute AA and BB when k=4k=4. (d) Evaluate ∫Rk(x) dx\displaystyle \int R_k(x)\,dx in terms of kk, including the constant of integration.
