Problem

Two blocks AA and BB of masses 3 kg3\,\text{kg} and 7 kg7\,\text{kg} respectively are to be given the same acceleration of 2 m s−22\,\text{m\,s}^{-2} on a smooth horizontal surface. (i) Calculate the magnitude of the horizontal force required for each block. (ii) Determine the ratio FBFA\dfrac{F_B}{F_A} of the forces acting on the two blocks. (iii) If a force of 12 N12\,\text{N} is applied on block AA, what distance will it cover in 4 s4\,\text{s} when starting from rest? (Assume the force remains constant and acts along the direction of motion.)
