Problem

A skater glides in a straight line. For the first 4.0 s4.0\,\text{s} she moves with a constant velocity of +8.0 m/s+8.0\,\text{m/s}; for the next 10.0 s10.0\,\text{s} she moves with a constant velocity of −4.0 m/s-4.0\,\text{m/s}. Take the positive direction as the direction of her initial motion. Calculate (i) her average velocity and (ii) her average speed for the entire 14.0 s14.0\,\text{s} interval.
