Problem

A 0.50 kg0.50\,\text{kg} mass is suspended from a vertical spring of force constant 200 N m−1200\,\text{N\,m}^{-1}. It is pulled down and released so that it executes vertical SHM of amplitude 0.080 m0.080\,\text{m} about its equilibrium position (taken as x=0x=0). Downward displacement is taken as positive. (i) Determine the angular frequency of oscillation. (ii) Calculate the speed of the mass when it is 0.050 m0.050\,\text{m} below the equilibrium position and moving downward. (iii) Find the time taken by the mass to move from x=0.050 mx = 0.050\,\text{m} (moving downward) to the equilibrium position for the first time. Show all steps of your working.
