Problem

A 0.50 kg0.50\,\text{kg} puck is sliding east across frictionless ice at 2.0 m ⁣⋅ ⁣s−12.0\,\text{m}\!\cdot\!\text{s}^{-1}. At t=0t=0 it begins to experience three constant forces: 4 N4\,\text{N} east (propulsive), 4 N4\,\text{N} west (kinetic drag), and 2 N2\,\text{N} north (side wind). (a) Determine whether the net force on the puck is zero in the east–west direction and in the north–south direction. (b) Identify which component(s) of the puck’s velocity will change over the next second and briefly explain why.
