Problem

(a) Define the negative of a vector. (b) Describe, step by step, how one can obtain the vector difference P−Q\mathbf{P}-\mathbf{Q} on a sheet of paper when only the vectors P\mathbf{P} and Q\mathbf{Q} are given. (c) Two displacement vectors are given: P\mathbf{P} is 5 cm5\,\text{cm} along the positive xx–axis and Q\mathbf{Q} is 4 cm4\,\text{cm} along the positive yy–axis. Using a convenient scale, draw P\mathbf{P}, Q\mathbf{Q}, −Q-\mathbf{Q} and P−Q\mathbf{P}-\mathbf{Q} on the same set of axes. Label all vectors clearly.
